SCHOOLS
We deserve thriving, connected public schools.
Minneapolis must be a city that cares for its children. Every child who lives here is ours – they are part of our community. It’s our responsibility to make sure that every child has what they need to learn, grow, and thrive in every part of our city. Unfortunately, our current mayor doesn’t see supporting our public schools as part of his job. When our children’s educators ask for more support, coordination, and care from our city government to address the challenges our public schools face, our mayor would prefer to stand by.
We deserve better.
We deserve a mayor who understands that public schools are the bedrock of our democracy and the backbone of our community. We deserve a mayor who wants to strengthen our city government’s relationship with our public schools. We deserve a mayor who will seek out opportunities to collaborate with and support the efforts of our educators. No parent, no educator, no school should feel like they are in this alone. We need a city government that proactively seeks out opportunities to support our public school district.
Every school in our district faces unique challenges. As mayor, I will leverage the power of city government to focus on our schools at the site level. Some schools might be best supported by more after school programs. Others might need more intensive support, to ensure that children and their families can meet their basic needs. With the right localized support, our schools can be sites where children and their caregivers can connect with necessary providers and supports. As mayor, I will prioritize collaboration and cooperation with our public school district because I know that caring for our children is a job that belongs to all of us.
