GOVERNANCE
We deserve a mayor with integrity and transparency from city hall.
People in Minneapolis care about each other. We care about our city. We want to make sure that our neighbors have what they need to live in safety and dignity. This concern for our neighbors has been a vital part of our political culture for decades. For the last eight years, we’ve been pitted against each other because our current mayor believes he benefits when people are afraid, when people become so disillusioned that they no longer believe something better is possible. Our current mayor stokes fear and division. He lies to us about important issues facing our city. He chooses to work with people who have shown him loyalty instead of who is best for the job, costing taxpayers money. He engages in bad faith arguments and sows misinformation. The result is distrust and anger, not only between neighbors in different wards of the city, but also between city council and the mayor’s office.
We deserve better.
We deserve a mayor who will be honest with us about big things, little things, and everything in between. We deserve a mayor with integrity, who we can trust to make fair, principled decisions–not decisions that serve wealthy donors. We deserve a city government that is transparent. When council members and residents request information about city programs and city spending, the mayor’s office and the departments that report to it should provide full and accurate information in response to that request.
We deserve a mayor who seeks to unite us, rather than divide us. Our city already has what we need to thrive, if we all work together. We deserve a mayor who will take action for the good of our communities, not to further their political ambitions. We have the potential to solve the pressing issues our city faces, if we elect a mayor who believes in the hard work of good governance and who brings us together in a vision for an inclusive and equitable city. I am running because I believe I can do that important work.
We deserve better. And, we can do better. As mayor, I’ll prioritize honesty and integrity in everything I do. I’ll use my decades of experience bringing people together to work for the common good to heal the divisions that have been fostered for cynical political gain. As mayor, I’ll prioritize good governance and community healing, so we can get back to caring for each other again.
